New Years Eve Celebration with Santa Claus performing the countdown, what better way to bring in the New Year than in North Pole, Alaska. Besides, Santa’s got at least a century on Dick Clark. While Dick Clark is reportedly 82 years old, Santa Claus, the version of him that puts him living at the North Pole, is at least 182 years old. So if age is a consideration, Santa’s the man, and North Pole, Alaska is the place to be, or at least looking on the web cam as it gets closer to midnight.

“Christmas in Ice is the magical event that lights up the Christmas season in Interior Alaska. Located next door to Santa Claus House, our Ice Park features Christmas-themed ice art sculptures by local and international carvers,” says the brochure that Melissa Fye produced this year.

“Christmas in Ice”, features their New Year’s Eve Snowflake Drop from 10 pm – 1 am, which is North Pole’s version of the Big Apple’s ball drop. Fireworks start at midnight, and this year’s tree, with its ten-thousand dancing LED lights, is accompanied by music syncopated with them. “…the synchronized lights will blink on and off more intensely as the clock ticks down 2011,” she says.

Each year the snowflake has a new look and presentation, this year it was designed by Jonathan Huff of Alaska Universal Productions and Tom Erte, says Melissa. For next year, North Pole’s 2012 Version of the Big Apple drop came from Western New Yorkers, Tom and Roxy Ertel, who wanted to bring some of New York to their new home in North Pole, says Melissa.

“Christmas In Ice” is located at 101 Santa Claus Lane at North Pole, Alaska, which is approximately twelve miles from Fairbanks on the Richardson Highway. Just look for the forty-two foot Santa Claus on your right just after the overpass, slow down and take the next right off the highway, then another sharp right back up the access road, which is Santa Claus Lane.

Traditionally, children have enjoyed receiving letters and writing back to their favorite character whenever a particular season or holiday starts. In line with this, parents became quite enthusiastic in sending their kids letters from the Easter bunny, letters from the tooth fairy, and the most popular – letters from Santa Claus. However, at Santa Clause House in North Pole Alaska, Santa Claus is as real as he has ever been and has been sending and receiving letters to nearly 2 million American kids for 60 years in a row.

“Each letter is postmarked and mailed from Santa Claus House in North Pole, Alaska, and more importantly, each letter is backed by a real address, where children can visit Santa, and even write back to the Jolly Old Elf,” Santa Claus House says on their website.

You can get a letter from Santa from his home in North Pole, Alaska. Photo from The Alaska News Nenana Messenger Archive.

“Each letter also includes a jumbo sticker, proclaiming the bearer to be “on Santa’s Good List; an exclusive, limited-edition keepsake “Santa Dollar;” and a full-color keepsake photo of Santa. And of course, every Santa letter is stamped with our trademark “Santa’s Official Mail” seal and a genuine North Pole postmark.”

The fact that kids from all around the world, if they’re able, is allowed to visit North Pole and actually see Santa just makes the Christmas holidays more exciting and fun for many children.

Letters from Santa come in different style and designs that would perfectly suit the preferences of your children. Since styles are available in different formats, little Hannah is surely not getting the same letter her big sister Daisy is having.

For standard shipping, parents are expected to place their orders before or on December 10th. Orders may be made from the Santa Claus House official site at http://www.santaclaushouse.com/.

Christmas doesn’t seem complete without mentioning the famous place where Santa Claus lives – the North Pole. In our beloved Alaska, North Pole is a growing community where Christmas seems to go on all year around. Traveling to North Pole is a fascinating and magical experience as the locals relive the storybook fairy tales of what a world would be if everyday is Christmas.

North Pole is quite famous for their brilliant portrayal of the perfect Christmas. Many local streets are named after anything that relates to this season – Santa Claus Lane, Snowman Lane, Kris Kringle, Mistletoe, Holiday Rd., Saint Nicholas Drive, North Star Drive, Blitzen, and Donnor. Shops, establishments and even houses in North Pole are painted and decorated in the theme of Christmas.

Visiting North Pole will never be complete without visiting a world-famous attraction, the Santa Claus House – the “official” home of our favorite Christmas character, Santa Claus, and his elves. In this place, you even see real reindeers. Take a picture with Rudolph and the rest of his reindeer gangs while getting hugs and kisses from a real Santa Claus.

The Santa Claus House also sends and receives letters from Santa to make your children’s holiday special. But if you’re up to give them the best, nothing could beat an actual visit to the real Santa Claus house! Whether you’ve been naughty or nice, Santa Claus house will welcome you with open arms under the mistletoe!

Each year the community starts the holiday season with a candle lighting ceremony and tree lighting event the first Sunday in December.
